Liz for many years worked for HM Customs and Excise in a variety of roles including VAT Officer and Customs Investigator.
After moving to the North East she decided on a career change and joined the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), establishing and developing 2 Advocacy Projects including a learning disability advocacy service.

After 5 years at the CAB Liz joined the NHS as Head of Patient and Public Involvement working for the then Easington Primary Care Trust and founded a number of user carer groups. With the merger of Primary Care Trusts, Liz joined NHS South of Tyne and Wear which covered Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland PCTs as Head of Patient and Public Involvement. Leaving that role she worked as part of a small Telehealth team covering the North East and Cumbria.

For the past 9 years I have been a volunteer director of a learning disability charity.

Liz is our new facilitator for session 3 Through the Maze

This session helps people to better understand how to approach adult social care services when needed. We explore eligibility criteria and the assessment process. Personalised budgets (direct payments) and NHS personal budgets are discussed too.

Liz said “i am really delighted to be joining this programme, which enables people to regain control of their lives and make new and important connections with people and services.”
