Walking 4 Health

Project Aim

Ramblers Walking for Health in Middlesbrough is aimed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to become more physically active in their local communities.

The Project

For over 12 years, we’ve helped thousands of people discover the many benefits of regular group walks. From reducing stress, to losing weight. Ramblers Walking for Health has something for everyone!

All our walks are led by trained walk leaders, most of whom are volunteers. Our walks vary from 30-90 minutes, depending on your choice. Our walks take place on pre risk assessed routes over easy terrain. The groups walk at a steady pace and best of all, they are free of charge.

Walking can improve your health, your happiness and, if you join one of our groups, it will give you the chance to explore the outdoors, get to know your local area better and meet new people.

Walking is simple and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier. It’s underrated as a form of exercise but walking is ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels who want to be more active.

Walking at least 150 minutes a week helps you:

  • increase your strength and fitness
  • reduce stress
  • reduce blood pressure
  • sleep better
  • reduce risk of dementia

Regular brisk walking has also been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses such as:

  • heart disease
  • type 2 diabetes
  • asthma
  • stroke
  • osteoarthritis
  • and even some cancers
